A Lifelong Gamer

Joe Huck, the owner and “Den Master” of The Ogre’s Den Gaming, grew up in the Chicago area playing different kinds of tabletop and role-playing games (Dungeons and Dragons, Hero Quest, Micro Armor, and Soldiers). These fond memories from his childhood, and his continued love of gaming as an adult, steered him towards opening his own tabletop games store.

Dreams of a Den

His vision was to have a store where anyone, regardless of age, background, gender, or gaming experience, could feel welcomed and encouraged to play games. The Ogre’s Den Gaming is a hub for older and newer generations to explore tabletop gaming together. It’s also a place for budding tabletop gamers to learn how to play different games without feeling intimidated or out-of-place.

Art as an Overall Hobby

Besides his passion for tabletop games, Joe is also a seasoned and talented artist. He uses his keen sense of colors and textures to produce art with a variety of mediums, including oil and canvas, colored pencils, and charcoal.

Joe also applies his artistic skills to painting miniature gaming figures, and has completed well over 1000 pieces for himself and others. Additionally, he assembles, creates, and paints the terrain and buildings for each of The Ogre’s Den’s differently-themed gaming tables.

A Kid at Heart

Joe is a life-long movie buff, with an affinity for sci-fi, fantasy, and horror flicks. (You’ll likely hear movie scores as background music when you’re in the store!) Some of his long-standing faves are Star Wars, Aliens, Lord of the Rings/Hobbit, and Harry Potter.

Aside from movies (and of course, tabletop games), Joe is an avid reader and dog lover. He and his wife, Rosie, also like to head to theme parks and comic cons whenever they have the chance.
